WOODWINDS: 17–24 May 2027
The International Music Competition BOLERO was first held in 2021 at the Muta Private Music School, with 44 young musicians taking part. In 2022, the competition moved to Bukovje Manor and expanded from percussion to brass instruments.
In 2023, woodwind instruments were added and the competition moved to Kienhofen Manor in Muta, where it is still held today. Since then, BOLERO has welcomed hundreds of young musicians from Slovenia and abroad every year. In 2026, 483 competitors from ten countries took part.
From the very beginning, BOLERO has been about more than competition. Our goal is to create an environment where young musicians, their teachers and jury members can learn and grow together. Educational activities, masterclasses and opportunities to share knowledge and experience are therefore an important part of BOLERO.
The International Music Competition BOLERO is open to young percussion, brass and woodwind players of all nationalities up to the age of 15. Our goal is to give young musicians a positive and valuable experience that encourages their musical and artistic development and motivates them to continue their musical journey.
We believe that a competition should be about more than just results. Our evaluation system is designed to recognise and encourage the achievements of every participant. We want young musicians to leave BOLERO with new experiences, valuable feedback and, above all, motivation to continue making music.
The selection of our jury is an important part of our philosophy. Our juries consist of renowned musicians and teachers who share our view of the role competitions can play in the development of young musicians.
In just a few years, the International Music Competition BOLERO has become one of the more prominent music competitions in Slovenia, bringing together young musicians, teachers and renowned artists from different countries each year. Our vision is to continue developing BOLERO as a high-quality, internationally recognised competition that supports the development of young musicians while also contributing to culture and tourism in the Koroška region and Slovenia.
We are looking forward to meet you!
